ST. PAUL, Minn. — A jury awarded former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura $1.8 million on Tuesday in his lawsuit against the estate of “American Sniper” author Chris Kyle. On the sixth day of deliberations, the federal jury decided that the author of the 2012 best-selling book defamed Ventura in its description of a bar fight in California in 2006. Kyle, regarded as the deadliest military sniper in U.S. history, wrote that he decked a man whom he later identified as Ventura after the man allegedly said the Navy SEALs “deserve to lose a few.” Ventura, a former Navy SEAL, testified … ]]> Wed, 30 Jul 2014 02:20:00 -0500 <![CDATA[ Eek! ‘Mice’ in movie theaters ]]> Lead story image

The Environmental Protection Agency’s fight to clean up water pollution got a splash of pop culture Tuesday, thanks to an Internet flub involving Kim Kardashian. The verified Twitter account for the EPA’s Office of Water mistakenly published a message Monday night about an online game, “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” in which players walk red carpets, attend photo shoots and get dolled up like the reality TV star. “I’m now a C-list celebrity in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. MIAMI — Justin Bieber’s lawyers and Florida prosecutors said Wednesday they need more time to work out a possible plea deal on charges that the pop star drove under the influence and resisted arrest. Gilbert said at a brief hearing the two sides would inform Altfield on that date how the plea negotiations are progressing “and set a trial date, if necessary.” He gave no other details, and Shapiro also would not get … ]]> Wed, 16 Jul 2014 11:00:00 -0500 <![CDATA[ Tommy Ramone, last of the original punk rockers the Ramones, dead at 62 ]]> Lead story image
