5 or 6 ripe peaches, peeled (see note)

About 5 slices white bread

1½cups sugar

2 tablespoons flour

1 egg

1 stick butter, melted

½ teaspoon nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place fruit in a buttered 8-by-8-inch baking dish or pan. Remove crusts from bread and cut bread into 1-inch strips. Place strips over fruit.

In a bowl, mix sugar, flour, egg and butter. Pour over bread and fruit, spreading well. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown.
