MAKES 4 SERVINGS

1½ cups raw peanuts

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup light corn syrup

Salt (a few grains)

1 tablespoon butter or margarine

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon baking soda

Mix peanuts, sugar, syrup and salt in large glass microwavable bowl. Cook 7½ to 9 minutes on high in microwave. Mixture should be bubbly and peanuts brown. Quickly stir in butter and vanilla; cook on high in microwave 2½ to 3 minutes longer. Add baking soda and stir quickly until foamy. Pour onto greased cookie sheet and spread out. When cool, break into pieces. Note of caution: Put cookie sheet on several layers of newspaper as it gets very hot.
