Buttermilk citrus shakes

July 8, 2009

MAKES 2 SERVINGS

¼ cup sugar

¼ cup hot water

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup fresh orange juice

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups ice cubes

2 teaspoons crushed gingersnaps, divided

1 teaspoon lemon zest, divided

Lemon slices

Combine sugar and hot water in a small bowl; stir until dissolved.

Pour sugar water into a blender and add the rest of the ingredients. Be sure to add the ice last so it doesn't lock the blades.

Puree on high until the ice is completely chopped. Garnish each serving with 1 teaspoon crushed gingersnaps, ½ teaspoon lemon zest and a lemon slice. Serve immediately.
