Opie’s Favorite Buttermilk Pie

MAKES 6 TO 8 SERVINGS
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup melted butter
3 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell
In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, cornstarch,butter and eggs. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed until well-blended. Add buttermilk; mix well. Pour into pie shell.
Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until set. Cool at room temperature.
Note: When we make this pie, we add a handful of pecan halves; really adds to the flavor.
