Ernie Banks campaigns as he runs for Eigthth Ward alderman on the South Side. Banks ran as an independent. “The election is February 26. I’m leaving the next day for spring training as alderman,” he characteristically told a reporter. Banks lost to Alderman James Condon 9,296-2,028.
