King of the Soldier Field mountain. February 13, 1938
Jorgen Johansen, of Rockford, Illinois, lifts-off in a ski jump meet at Soldier Field. Fans watched about 120 jumpers compete in the third-annual event, called the Central United States Ski Association Championships. An 18-story ski slide—built for a $21,000—was constructed
of scaffolding and covered by snow imported from Escanaba, Michigan.
