The Cubs’ Dizzy Dean strikes out Yankees’ Joe DiMaggio in the seventh inning of Game 2 of the World Series. Two innings later, DiMaggio homered off Dean. “One moment Dizzy Dean was winning the greatest battle of his career, the next he was defeated, 6 to 3,” wrote Daily Times sports editor Marvin McCarthy. The Yanks swept the series.
