St. Valentine’s Night Massacre. February 15, 1936
“Machine Gun” Jack McGurn is shot to death at the Avenue Recreation bowling alley, 805 North Milwaukee Avenue, seven years after the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. McGurn, who was Al Capone’s trigger man, was an expert golfer who played once in the Western Open—until being outed as a gangster. He was waiting for his turn to bowl when he was gunned down a few minutes after midnight.
