Big night for those just wild about Harry

July 20, 2007
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and last book in J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series, will hit the bookstores a minute after midnight tonight. All day, all over the Chicago area, anticipation will spill out of the stores and into the streets as whole towns turn themselves into Hogwarts, the school for wizards, or Diagon Alley, the magical shopping area where Harry got his wand.

Any fan should be able to find a party and a host of fellow enthusiasts to celebrate with. Just look for a bookstore.

Downers Grove and Naperville are going all out in conjunction with Anderson's Bookshops in those towns. "The Party that Shall Not Be Named" begins in Naperville at 6 p.m., and at 9 p.m. in Downers Grove.

At the Anderson's in Naperville, 123 W. Jefferson, lots of great classes for wizards will be presented, including one about owls, and living "magical portraits" will appear in Anderson's windows. Call (630) 355-2665.

Anderson's in Downers Grove, 5112 Main, will hold an Odd Sock contest and a Potter trivia contest, "Professor Trelawney" will tell fortunes, and much more. Call (630) 963-2665. For events at both stores, visit www.andersonsbookshop.com.

The Magic Tree Bookstore, 141 N. Oak Park, will be the center of a community-wide celebration in Oak Park that will start around noon and last until after midnight. Potter fans can enjoy Quidditch, Muggle Golf, Wizard Chess and -- new this year -- the Slytherin Reptile House. Call (708) 848-0770 or visit www.magictreebookstore.com.
