Potter will live on in the hearts of his fans

July 17, 2007

Even if author J.K. Rowling decides to keep Harry Potter alive in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," this will be the final adventure for the boy wizard.

Like all great stories, including "Star Wars" and "Lord of the Rings," it must come to an end. But that doesn't mean the fun has to end. "Potter" has already obtained cult status and will continue to live in the hearts of fans forever.

Just consider the optimism. Nearly half of all Potter readers believe the hero will not die in the final novel, according to a poll recently conducted by Zogby Interactive.

News reports indicate that Rowling said she is even sad to let Potter go. Nevertheless, fans can continue on the adventure with sites like www.muggle.net, hp-lexicon.org, www.the-leaky-cauldron.org, www.jkrowling.com and www.harrypotter.gen.tr.

Fiction writers also realize there will be a market for Potter readers and are moving to fill it, coming up with new magical titles such as "Niberia" and "Inkspell," which are top sellers on Amazon.com.

Even then, readers can bank on a series of "Potter" spin-offs and prequels in the future to bring in more revenue for publishing houses.

Or as one Sun reader put it, maybe Rowling just needs a vacation to return to writing again.

"She should take one year off to relax," said Audrey Farrar, 47, of Elk City, Okla. "Then she should get back to writing more books about different things - dragons, knights, fairy tale adventures or just more magic creatures."
