Planetarium offers 'Harry Potter' event
Aspiring wizard scientists and Harry Potter fans are invited to attend the "Adler School of Science and Wizardry" July 15 at the Adler Planetarium's Wizard Science Overnight. Spend the night at the Adler before attending an exclusive, opening weekend showing of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: An IMAX 3-D Experience" at Navy Pier IMAX Theatre the next morning.
Upon arrival, young wizard scientists will be "sorted" into a "house" and begin work on earning their O.W.L.S. - Ordinary Wizarding Level in Science - by completing activities that uncover the real science principles behind wizard magic, including invisible ink and invisibility cloaks. A special Sky Theater show reveals constellations and planets that inspired the Harry Potter characters and events in the popular books. After a late-night snack and a full night's sleep under the Adler's glass-enclosed Sky Pavilion, participants will go to Navy Pier for the "Harry Potter" screening.
At 9 a.m. July 16, Wizard Overnight ticket holders will attend an exclusive screening of the newest movie in the popular "Harry Potter" series at Navy Pier. Check-in begins at 6 p.m. July 15 with activities starting at 6:30 p.m. Transportation from the Adler to Navy Pier is not included, nor is parking at either institution.
The cost is $75 ($65 for Adler members) per person and includes activities, a late night snack, continental breakfast, a special Adler sky show, one ticket to an exclusive screening of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in IMAX 3-D," and one soda and popcorn during the movie.
All children must be accompanied by an adult. One adult chaperone is required per five children. This event is recommended for children ages 7-14. Only 375 tickets will be sold to this event.
