Potter events planned in Glen Ellyn

June 29, 2007

The Bookstore, in conjunction with the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce and the Glen Ellyn Downtown Business Alliance, is sponsoring several events related to the release of the last Harry Potter book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," on July 21.

A Treasure/Scavenger Hunt will run June 30 to July 20 with more than 30 downtown businesses participating. An object related to the Harry Potter series will be "hidden in plain sight" in each store.

Hunt participants will visit the stores, find the object and have their booklet verified. When the booklet is complete, it can be turned in at The Bookstore to be entered in a prize drawing at 10 p.m. July 20. Prizes include a Harry Potter basket.

Activities are also planned the night of July 20 in anticipation of the book's midnight release. Main Street between Crescent Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue will closed at 8:30 p.m. for the festivities.

At 9 p.m., the Glen Ellyn Pubic Library is sponsoring a magic show in the auditorium at Glenbard West High School. The show is free, but registration is required. Participants will then parade to the downtown festivities.

Activities on Main will also begin at 9 p.m. Several merchants will be selling special products, and activities will include face painting, a trivia game, tarot card and palm readings, hat making, a Harry Potter crossword and coloring pages.

The Bookstore will accept payment for the book before midnight but is not allowed to distribute it until that time.
