184 stone benches are illuminated outside the Pentagon in Arlington, Va. Each bench bears the name of a person who died Sept. 11, 2001, in the terrorist attack on the Pentagon and together comprise the permanent outdoor Pentagon Memorial, created to honor the family members and friends killed both in the building and on American Airlines Flight 77. The Pentagon was the first of the three attack sites to open an official memorial. It was dedicated Sept. 11, 2008, and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
