Carlos Boozer continued to make progress Monday in his rehab from the left-ankle sprain that has sidelined him the last two games, but it’s unlikely he’ll return tonight against the Washington Wizards.
‘‘He didn’t do anything in practice,’’ coach Tom Thibodeau said, ‘‘but he got in some cardio and some weightlifting. Each day, he’s gotten better. [He’ll return] probably within a week.’’
Boozer, who did some light shooting, declined to give a target date for his return but said, ‘‘I’m seeing good improvement, so I’m happy with that.’’
Derrick Rose said he’ll welcome Boozer’s return.
‘‘He needs to come back quick,’’ Rose said. ‘‘He was shooting today. That’s a good sign. The swelling is down. We’re ready for him to come back.’’
Showing their school colors, Boozer likes Duke, a No. 1 seed, to win the national championship, while Rose is picking 12th-seeded Memphis to make a surprise run to the Final Four.
‘‘I’m going with Memphis [in the Final Four]; that’s where I went to school,’’ Rose said. ‘‘If they don’t, they have a young team. All of them are going to be back next year, and they’re going to be a threat.’’
Rose is also partial to his college coach, John Calipari, who’s now at Kentucky.
‘‘Coach Cal is like a father figure to me,’’ Rose said. ‘‘I talk to him a lot. I wish them nothing but the best.’’
Meanwhile, Boozer is bullish on the Blue Devils.
‘‘Why wouldn’t we [win it all]?’’ he said. ‘‘My Dukies took care of the ACC championship. We sealed the No. 1 seed. We have the best coach [Mike Krzyzewski] in the land and a talented group of guys. Go Blue Devils!’’
Thibodeau, on why Luol Deng ought to be on the all-defensive team: ‘‘I see it every day, not only his individual defense, but his team defense. You can count on it every night. He deserves it.’’
◆ Rose, on how Thibodeau would react if the Bulls came up with a defensive effort like the Boston Celtics’ in an 87-56 victory Sunday over the Milwaukee Bucks: ‘‘He’d probably give us a day off on close-outs or something. But he’d talk about something else to bring us back down.’’
