1. the missed clear
In overtime, Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook sent the puck along the boards to enforcer Brandon Bollig to clear the puck from their zone, but it stayed in. It no time, center Tyler Seguin fed winger Daniel Paille for the game-winner at 13:48 in OT. It capped a stellar extra period by the Bruins and a strong game by Paille. He did all the dirty work that led to Boston’s game-tying first goal in the second period.
2. The 1-0 lead
The Hawks were dominant in the first period, controlling play in the offensive zone, creating numerous chances and thwarting any threats quickly. They outshot the Bruins 19-4 and took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Patrick Sharp. But they should have had more. The Hawks held the Bruins to five total shots (only four reached goalie Corey Crawford), while generating 30 of their own, including 19 on goalie Tuukka Rask. He stopped 18 of them.
3. The wave off
Let’s not forget that the Hawks nearly had a 2-0 lead and a Marian Hossa goal at 12:32 of the first period when the puck seemingly crept past Rask during a mad scramble in his crease. Referee Wes McCauley, though, whistled the play dead. Replays later showed the puck crossing the goal line near Rask’s skates. It was reviewed, but the NHL Situation Room ruled the play was blown dead prior to the goal.
