Viktor Stalberg likely will be scratched for Game 1

Updated: June 12, 2013 7:03PM

Viktor Stalberg took the news as well as he could: The Blackhawks speedster likely will be a healthy scratch in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night.

Hawks coach Joel Quenneville moved center Dave Bolland from the fourth line to the third line, where Stalberg had been playing with Andrew Shaw and Brandon Saad. Brandon Bollig, inactive since Game 4 of the first-round series against the Minnesota Wild, played on the fourth line with Marcus Kruger and Michael Frolik. Stalberg was the odd man out.

‘‘I don’t really have too much to say about it. It is what it is,’’ Stalberg said. ‘‘I’ll do whatever I can to get back in there, I guess.’’

But he didn’t try to hide his disappointment or frustration.

‘‘It’s tough, obviously. It’s frustrating,’’ Stalberg said. ‘‘You’re going to go through struggles. But at the same time, it’s tough, too, when you’re playing eight minutes a night to do something. Being a productive player in the regular season for the most part, it’s tough sometimes when you don’t get the ice time you’re used to and you have to change your game up a bit and something doesn’t work the way we wanted it to.

‘‘I think I’ve been doing what I’ve been asked to do. If they want some more toughness in this first game, so be it. All I can do is work hard and show them I’m ready to play. I think I can make a difference. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to get in there.’’

Bollig was surprised and thrilled to be on the fourth line in practice.

‘‘Absolutely,’’ he said. ‘‘I don’t think it gets any more exciting than the Stanley Cup Final. To be in that position if I do get in tomorrow, obviously that’s something you dream of as a kid. And I hope that it happens.’’
