Sports Paxson cautions fans against Rose-y assumptions Immediately after the Bulls defied the odds and came away with the No. 1 pick during the NBA’s draft lottery Tuesday night, it was assumed — by media, fans and even a few league insiders — the choice would be Memphis point guard (and Chicagoan) Derrick Rose.

Bradley's status for training camp is debatable From "Inside the Bears": Mark Bradley is wearing a brace on his right leg following surgery earlier this month, and he tweaked the knee on the field during voluntary offseason workouts. “I’ll be ready for training camp," he said. The team says Bradley’s return for the beginning of training camp July 23 is questionable.

Thome at crossroads Greg Couch: Jim Thome is old. Let's just be blunt about it. Thirty-seven years on a big body that has been hurt over and over through the years. That's a dangerous moment for a baseball player, even one likely headed for the Hall of Fame, like Thome.

Lifestyles Farmers are coming to your neighborhood The weather finally has turned. My sweaters are in storage. And the Green City Market is open for the summer season. And now, a confession: I rarely go to the market. It runs on Wednesdays, when I am at work downtown, and on Saturdays, when I try to avoid Lincoln Park traffic gridlock.

Entertainment Encore! Does every band have to reunite? Your favorite ’90s band broke up? Fear not, they’ll be back. Seventies and ’80s bands, too. And if not this year, maybe next. It seems that no matter how storied the split, almost every band is bound to get back together — and that could make the magic of an anticipated reunion a little less magical. And this summer’s concert calendar boasts tours by reunited rockers and relics.

Business An attraction without Pier Lewis Lazare: Given the masses that surge toward Navy Pier nearly every balmy summer day (and we've seen 'em with our own eyes), we wouldn't have thought there was an especially pressing need for an ad campaign to promote what has become the Midwest's No. 1 tourist attraction. The entire operation reportedly attracts more than 8 million visitors a year and has an economic impact in excess of $1 billion annually. But the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, which operates the pier, apparently believes there's room for more people and economic impact on the pier.

Indy in the Riviera sunshine

The weather gods smiled on Steven Spielberg and George Lucas for their world premiere of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” Crowds gathered in the Riviera sun, some of them with signs pleading, “S’il vous plait, I NEED tickets for Indiana Jones!”
