Metro & Tri-state Feds: Chicago cop took bribes
A Chicago Police officer was charged today with extorting up to $800 a week from a tow truck company — the second cop busted by the feds in a widening investigation of the towing industry. Michael J. Ciancio, 56, was arrested at his home this morning. On Aug. 10, he was caught taking a $600 bribe in a Walgreen’s parking lot on the Northwest Side where he worked, said an FBI complaint.

Campaign 2008

Sports Hester runs from Bears ... And who can blame him? Jay Mariotti: He didn’t posture and break off talks, as Tommie Harris did. He didn’t hiss and moan like a child and threaten to blow off training camp, as Brian Urlacher did. Even on the spring day when Robbie Gould — a terrific kicker but, still, a kicker — cashed in for a cool $15.5 million, Devin Hester didn’t whine publicly about the farcical injustice that his own contract had become.
Sox score five in eighth to win Carlos Quentin hit two home runs, including the go-ahead, three-run shot during a five-run eighth inning, helping the Chicago White Sox rally to beat the Texas Rangers 10-8 on Wednesday.

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- With news of his absence from training camp blaring from a sports talk station in the background, Devin Hester said he's prepared to dig in for the long haul.

Business Fist bump means business The handshake may always have a firm grip on business, but the fist bump is making inroads -- albeit in the face of some resistance. "I have not encountered a fist bump and would judge anyone who tried it as a total redneck," said Dr. Grace Keenan, medical director of Nova Medical and Urgent Care Center in Ashburn, Va. "I hope that it never is seen as a replacement for a handshake in the business community."

Camp notes: Hester supposed to start with 1st team at WR

If Devin Hester is looking for a boost in his bid for a new contract--he's next in line now that Brian Urlacher is signed, sealed and delivered--how about his status as a starting wide receiver? Offensive coordinator Ron Turner said Tuesday that Hester and Brandon Lloyd will likely start with the first team at practice today. The duo did quite a bit of that during the offseason program and Turner said they'll probably get the nod ahead of Marty Booker and the long list of others including Mark Bradley.
