To my eye, those new, expensive doors on the state Capitol in Springfield are ugly and grotesque at any price. Since they are copper, they will turn green when exposed to the elements.

Dangers on Eisenhower
How many people have to die after being hit by drunken drivers heading the wrong way on the Eisenhower? This sort of accident happens almost every weekend; obviously the drunk drivers are impaired, but just as obvious is the fact that design flaws mislead drivers into heading the wrong way. Come on, transportation planners, earn your pay!

Who we really are
I have read that the United States sees itself as Superman while the rest of the world sees it as Batman. When bad things happen, the world expects the U.S. to intervene because it has the power to do so; but like Batman, our tactics are more vigilante than superhero. I think the Batman analogy is wrong. I think the way the U.S. conducts foreign policy is more like a real person than a fictional character. We tell ourselves our intentions are pure while cruising around the global neighborhood racially profiling regimes. A U.S. Apache helicopter kills a dozen unarmed men in a suburb of Baghdad. A U.S. drone kills 30 people at an Afghan wedding. Now the U.S. wants to launch cruise missiles that will no doubt kill innocent civilians to punish Syria for killing innocent civilians.
We are not Superman. We are not Batman. We are George Zimmerman. If the people of Syria want to prevent President Barack Obama from raining missiles on their heads, I suggest they wear hoodies that read: “We are Trayvon.”
