Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn

Pull off the Band-Aid on pensions
I think it’s a great idea that Gov. Pat Quinn wants to reform pensions. Although with the state in the depths of debt and no one wanting to take the first step in reforming (cutting) pensions, maybe we should just leave them alone. Let them keep getting their pensions. Hey, let’s raise the minimum wage while we’re at it.
California should be a lesson for us, but it’s not. With the high taxes, fees and deficits in this state, let’s make it harder and harder for the small businesses to exist. Raising the minimum wage will get more people laid off who will then move out of state, the businesses will move out of state because they can’t afford employees, plus the taxes will go up to pay for all of the pensions.
This is a brilliant idea. If everyone moves out of the state we can shut down the government because no one will be left to need their services except themselves, and they don’t create capital, they spend it. Pretty soon the only thing we will make in Illinois is trouble and lawsuits. No one wants to do the right thing as it generally is not the easy thing and it may offend someone. WHO CARES? You can’t go through life being afraid to offend people or you will end up with a society like we have now. No one says anything about anyone to anyone, and it all crumbles. Why? Because we were afraid to hurt someone’s feelings because we’d get sued. Just do the right thing, take the heat and get on with life.

Bad meter replacement plan
Peoples Gas has been replacing meters in some lucky selected areas of Chicago. Could any company be as poorly run or a plan as ineptly executed?
The street I live on has suffered all year from this misadventure. New supply lines run through our streets.
Now, to add greater insult, they are replacing meters and service during the coldest time of the year. Peoples Gas should be investigated on the practices they use during this folly. They harass you by phone and mail and threaten to disconnect paying customers’ service if they are not allowed to drill holes through your house and generally annoy.
My meter was replaced today. The service technician was fine, he did his job. Yet, Peoples Gas had five other representatives on your property doing nothing. Just checking in and wasting the technician’s time.
