Over the course of the War on Terror, the Taliban and Al Qaeda have desecrated the bodies of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan numerous times. For example, when PFC Kristian Menchaca and PFC Thomas Lowell were in Iraq in June, 2006, they were captured, executed and mutilated — all of this being broadcasted via the Internet, In the end, an Iraqi judicial committee ruled that the two men responsible could not be charged due to a lack of evidence, but they were seen clearly in the video. Yet, we see Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explaining their mission to try and prosecute the U.S. servicemen responsible for the recent desecration of the dead insurgents. These men are now subject to a trial that will most definitely lead to their being stripped of their ranks, dishonorably discharged and maybe even imprisoned for a “crime” the enemy will never get punished for.
As for Hamid Karzai stirring up an investigation to seek justice for the death and treatment of terrorists, he might as well tackle the larger problems overflowing his country at the moment.
