Tom McNamee

Tom McNamee was appointed editorial page editor of the Chicago Sun-Times in February 2008.
Prior to that, McNamee wrote a weekly column, “The Chicago Way” for three years and co-created and edited a Sunday commentary section called “Controversy.” He came to the Sun-Times in 1982 as an intern after earning a master’s degree from the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration. He has a bachelor’s from Northern Illinois University.
He is the author of several Chicago-centric books, including three with Sun-Times Editor Don Hayner. They are Streetwise Chicago: A History of Chicago Street Names, the Metro-Chicago Almanac, and The Stadium, a history of the old Chicago Stadium. In 2008, McNamee was awarded the prestigious Studs Terkel Award by the Community Media Workshop.
