All hail the graduating class of the Patrick Fitzgerald Finishing School!
At least give ’em a break. They’ve done their time.
Mickey Segal graduated Tuesday, released by a judge a bit early after doing eight years behind bars. He had looted his insurance company to curry favor with political pals and party hard.
Conrad Black, the newspaper baron who ripped off this paper and others, graduated from prison earlier this month. His partner in crime, David Radler, graduated years ago.
And then there are Ed Vrydolyak, the former alderman caught in a real estate scam; Scooter Libby, the Dick Cheney adviser convicted of obstruction of justice, and Jim Laski, the city clerk who pocketed bribes — all notable graduates of the Patrick Fitzgerald Finishing School.
Meanwhile, former Gov. George Ryan studies on.
Too bad the school is closing.
We can only hope Chicago’s next U.S. attorney is even half as good at teaching folks manners.
