The quotable Lou

FEB. 17, 2007
ᄑᄑWhat Iᄑd like to do more than anything else is by the time we leave here, we have a little Cubbie swagger.ᄑᄑ
FEB. 18
ᄑᄑI know this is spring training, and I know weᄑre just getting started, but weᄑve got a nice little quiet confidence here. I have the feeling that a lot of good things can happen here in Chicago this year.ᄑᄑ
APRIL 13
ᄑᄑWhat the hell do you think isnᄑt working? You see the damn game! ... I can start to see some of the ways this team has lost ballgames. I can see it. Weᄑve got to correct it, obviously.ᄑᄑ
JUNE 2
ᄑᄑMy first 52 games? Iᄑve gone through my freshman and sophomore years in two months. Iᄑve gotten a quick education. I hope I donᄑt get my junior and senior years in June and July.ᄑᄑ
OCT. 17, 2006 (UPON BEING HIRED)
ᄑᄑI didnᄑt even know about this ᄑbilly goatᄑ curse and all of this stuff. It makes for good copy, but there are no curses. I donᄑt believe in any of that stuff. ... Long-suffering Cubs fans, weᄑre going to win here. And thatᄑs really the end of the story.ᄑᄑ
JUNE 15 (TO SEATTLE REPORTERS)
ᄑᄑItᄑs a little bit more daunting than it looks from the outside. It really is. I guess itᄑs because they havenᄑt won here for so long. We have to change the culture. You get in that [interview] room after the game and youᄑve lost a tough ballgame, they take their damn belt off.ᄑᄑ
JUNE 22
ᄑᄑItᄑs a tough job. I really have found that out. Iᄑve learned a hell of a lot in a short period of time here. But, still, youᄑve got to change the culture. If not, thereᄑll be a new staff in here in whatever period of time and theyᄑll be talking about the same thing.ᄑᄑ
JUNE 24
ᄑᄑEarlier in the year we were making a lot of mistakes, and it became an expectation. Now they come fewer and farther between, and it surprises me when it happens. That tells me itᄑs getting better.ᄑᄑ
AUG. 4
ᄑᄑNo one thought weᄑd continue to play at the pace we did [in June and July]. I liken it to the stock market ᄑ you get a spike in prices and then a little consolidation.ᄑᄑ
SEPT. 12 (ON STRANDING A RUNNER AT THIRD WITH NO OUTS IN THE NINTH BUT STILL WINNING A ONE-RUN GAME IN HOUSTON TO SNAP A 3-6 SLIDE. IT WAS THE FIRST OF 10 WINS IN 12 GAMES)
ᄑᄑYou have to think the worm has turned.ᄑᄑ
SEPT. 29
ᄑᄑIᄑll tell you this, it has been a tough journey. Itᄑs not over yet, but it has been a tough journey.ᄑᄑ
