LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — Bolivia’s national ombudsman’s office and a respected regional human rights group say at least 30 people have been killed and 60 injured in a prison riot.
Police have not yet updated the death toll of 15 provided a few hours after the dawn battle inside the Palmasola maximum-security prison, Bolivia’s largest.
The higher toll was provided by the ombudsman’s office and by the Santa Cruz office of the Permanent Assembly of Human Rights. Each said they did their own count.
