ANKARA, Turkey — An official says a Turkish military jet carrying two pilots has gone missing in an area close to Syria in the eastern Mediterranean.
Gov. Ulvi Saran of the southern province of Malatya says an F-4 jet went missing Friday in an area over the sea, southwest of the Turkish province of Hatay, which borders Syria. Saran told the state-run Anadolu Agency that the plane, carrying two pilots, took off from Malatya.
Hurriyet newspaper, without citing sources, says the plane apparently plunged into international waters outside the territorial waters of Syria.
