Red Line trains were running normally again early Tuesday after being rerouted to the elevated tracks because of a smoky smell at the Grand Avenue station.
Firefighters were called to the Grand stop about 7:20 a.m. for a smell of smoke coming from debris on tracks, CTA spokesman Brian Steele said.
No trains were stopped, but trains heading north and south between Fullerton and Cermak/Chinatown were rerouted to elevated tracks, while power was cut off through the regular route, Steele said. Service resumed normal routing via the subway about a half-hour later.
Fire Media Affairs did not immediately respond to calls for more details.
