An accident involving a church van Saturday night on the Kennedy Expressway left 14 people injured, bringing northbound traffic to a halt downtown on the normally busy highway and causing major backups.
A church van from Milwaukee was involved in the wreck around 8:30 p.m. near Ohio Street, which brought all northbound traffic to a halt for more than an hour, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The injured included two people described as seriously injured and “a small child,” also seriously hurt.
They were taken to hospitals including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center and the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center.
None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, according to the fire department, but closing the expressway caused major backups.
