Derailed train in Gary carried hazardous material, officials say none leaked

Three derailed cars on a Canadian National Railway freight train in Gary carried hazardous materials, but authorities said none of the cars leaked. The derailment happened about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, just northwest of Broadway, near the U.S. Steel entrance and north of the South Shore commuter rail line tracks. CN spokesman Patrick Waldron said 35 of the 101-car freight train derailed for unknown reasons. The track arches over Broadway on an overpass. The derailment ruptured a 14-inch industrial gas line that serves the Great Lakes Industrial Center and temporarily halted service on the South Shore line, but
