Downed power lines briefly shut Tri-State; repairs ahead

November 4, 2009

A construction crane knocked two electrical lines onto the Tri-State Tollway in the northwest suburbs just after 8 a.m. Tuesday, stopping traffic for nearly an hour.

It happened just south of Willow Road. No one was hurt, but many were inconvenienced -- including those who briefly lost power in the area.

Crews moved the downed lines off the road in about 45 minutes, and cars began to creep past.

ComEd initially planned to shut down the Tri-State for two hours at noon Tuesday to repair the wires -- but the power company soon scrapped those plans.

A date and time for the repairs -- which will require a Tri-State shutdown -- could be announced today.
