More misery on the roads
Road closings this week should make traffic, ah, interesting in parts of the Northwest and Southwest sides and in Calumet City.
Beginning at 6 a.m. today and continuing for one week, northbound Cicero Avenue between the Stevenson Expy. and 39th Street will be closed because the Canadian National Railroad will be repairing and replacing a grade crossing.
Besides affecting Cicero Avenue and traffic getting onto and off of the Stevenson, drivers should expect heavy congestion along other routes in Berwyn, Cicero and Stickney.
Northbound traffic will be detoured at 47th Street, a mile west to Central Avenue, north to 39th, then east to Cicero. The Stevenson interchange will remain open to traffic.
On the Northwest Side, the Chicago Department of Water Management is installing a new sewer on Pulaski Road from Peterson Avenue to Rogers Avenue, closing Pulaski for a month.
This is a busy rush hour route, and the work is adjacent to Northtown Academy. Local traffic only will be permitted south of Devon and north of Rogers.
In Calumet City starting Wednesday, crews will be closing both directions of Burnham Avenue from 143rd to State Street for work on the bridge over the Grand Calumet River and various railroads. Traffic will be detoured via Sibley Boulevard, Torrence Avenue and Brainard Avenue. The work will continue for about a month.
