Both inbound and outbound Metra trains on the Rock Island Line were being delayed up to 75 minutes Monday evening after a train and car collided at 115th Street in Chicago, according to Metra.
Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said train No. 413, scheduled to arrive in New Lenox at 6:01 p.m., hit a car at about 5:20 p.m. on the tracks at 115th Street and Vincennes Avenue. Reile said the train was on an express route between the stop at 103rd Street in Washington Heights and the Blue Island Vermont stop.
Reile said she doesn’t believe there were any fatalities and that a preliminary investigation determined the crossing gates were working at the time of the crash.
She estimated that between 500 and 1,000 people were on the train.
