United Airlines frequent flyers can get to their gates a bit faster now that the Transportation Security Administration has expanded its pre-screening initiative to customers at O’Hare International Airport.
That means eligible United passengers who volunteer information about themselves to speed up screening won’t have to take off their shoes, light outerwear or belts. And laptops can be kept in cases along with certain liquids and gels in carry-ons.
The TSA announced United’s involvement in the pre-screening initiative at O’Hare on Wednesday, along with the expansion of the program for US Airways customers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
More than 1.5 million passengers have received expedited screening through the TSA screening program since it began in October.
It’s now available in 16 airports for U.S. citizens who are select frequent flyers of participating airlines or members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Trusted Traveler programs for travel within the U.S.
United said to apply for the program you must be a MileagePlus member and a U.S. citizen.
