Not so golden years
Don't look, I thought. What's the point? Why torture yourself? The stock market tumbles, of course your 401(k) goes down. There's no need to check the actual figure. Don't look.

Congress fixed it?Sure
A guy takes vacation for one week, and what happens? The whole financial system faints, swooning into the arms of Congress, which after some initial dithering catches it -- a "rescue" scary in itself and should put to rest any residual hopes that Somehow Everything Will Be OK. Unthinking confidence
This political stuff is addictive. I see now why people spend their careers swirling the tea leaves and studying the duck entrails. Frankly, after I wrote about Gov. Sarah Palin on Friday, the response was enough to keep a dozen psychiatrists busy and fascinated for the rest of their careers.
