Top tip . . .

Sneed hears the hatchets have been buried by the Rahmster and the Edster — and not in each other’s backs.

† Translation: Word is Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel and Ald. Ed Burke, the City Council’s dean, have had several peaceful and productive sit-downs — which included a private confab that lasted several hours at the home of Ald. Pat O’Connor — who is close to both powerful pols.

† Translation: Peace is at hand.

Pews news . . .

Good grief: While the world awaits the beatification of Pope John Paul II on May 1 in Rome, the city of Florence is bracing for the arrival of Snooki and Pauly D!

† Translation: The cast members of the hit MTV series “Jersey Shore” are scheduled to arrive in Florence next week to shoot segments of the show’s fourth season.

† Translation: According to a report in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, the mayor of Florence is now so flummoxed over the criticism of the drinking behavior of the show’s stars — he has issued a few edicts.

† To wit: The cast will not be filmed in bars and clubs that serve alcohol; not be filmed drinking in public; not be filmed to promote Florence as a drinking town.

The royal wedding . . .

Flotsam and jetsetsam from the upcoming royal wedding between England’s Prince William and commoner Kate Middleton.

† Grandma just met the in-laws: Queen Elizabeth, who had never met Kate Middleton’s parents, just invited them to lunch to “break the ice.”

† The Di File: Prince William took his fiancee Wednesday to visit the tomb of his late mother, Princess Diana, who died in a sensational 1997 car accident in a Paris tunnel. It was reportedly very emotional. Flowers were laid and hands were held.

Tokyo tips . . .

Sneed is told foreigners living in Japan, who fled the devastation of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, have earned themselves the nickname “flyjin” — an amalgamation of the Japan slang term for foreigner (“gaijin”) and the English word (“fly”) in the fleeing sense.

† It wasn’t a joyful send-off: A Sneed source from Illinois who worked in Tokyo — and left more than a week after the earthquake hit at his family’s urging — was asked to return his prorated salary for the days he would miss. (Salaries in Japan are usually paid at the 25th of each month and often processed a week early.)

A music note . . .

Legendary singer James Taylor got a surprise onstage visit during his performance Wednesday night at Carnegie Hall from another legend: his longtime pal Tony Bennett.

† The upshot: It resulted in the duo singing a duet of “Put on a Happy Face.” Fitting. (Bennett hits Ravinia on Aug. 26.)

Sports short . . .

Obamarama: On his visit to Chicago last week, President Obama regaled friends with a story about SuperBull Derrick Rose, who introduced Obama at a packed Navy Pier event.

† Backshot: Rose and a bunch of NBA stars were in Washington last summer to play a pickup game with the president before a group of Wounded Warriors at Fort McNair.

† Slowshot: “Someone asked Derrick after, “So how’s the president’s game?” And he said, “Well, he can play. He’s got some game. But he’s a little slow.”

† Slapshot: “So I hear this and I’m thinking ‘Slow? I’m twice his age!” the president recalled, laughing. “Anyway, who ISN’T slow next to that kid?”

I spy . . .

Actor Rob Lowe lunching with his publicist, Alan Nierob, at RL after appearing on “Oprah” Wednesday. Four women from the Oprah audience who were sitting in the RL lounge as Lowe was exiting gleefully screeched as he stopped to take a picture with them.

Sneedlings . . .

Today’s birthdays: Jack Nicholson, 74; Glen Campbell, 75, and John Waters, 65.
