He’s got his back!

The Cutler corner . . .

Battered and bruised Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, who can be testy with his fans, had a love-in with his backup Josh McCown shortly before Cutler’s left groin injury Sunday.

The injury, which hauled Cutler off the field during the second quarter of the Washington Redskins game, put the Bears star in rehab for the next four weeks.

“The guys are really close,” said a Cutler source.

“McCown may be Jay’s backup quarterback, stepping in until Cutler gets back on the field, but don’t even think about the possibility of jealousy and resentment between them.

“The guys have each other’s back!”

Sneed is told two weeks ago — two days before the New York Giants game — Jay was invited to join McCown and his entire family for dinner at Chicago Cut Steakhouse and he seemed a natural fit.

“Jay came alone and everybody chuckled because Jay was originally seated at the end of the table with McCown’s kids,” the source added. “It really showed Jay’s warm and fuzzy side. You don’t think in terms of ‘cute’ when it comes to Cutler, but the dinner scene was cute. Everybody had a big hug at the table and you could tell the two guys were close.”

At an earlier event in May, Sneed is told Cutler, now the most sacked quarterback in Chicago Bears history after the tackle that caused his injury, joined McCown and their respective wives (Cutler is married to reality star Kristin Cavallari) for an intimate dinner at Chicago Cut before a Bears charity event last May.

“These guys are a team,” the source added.

Sneed is told Cutler has dinner frequently at the steakhouse with either McCown or the Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who was Cutler’s go-to receiver when they both played for the Denver Broncos. “He and Marshall are really close friends. They go way back.”

So what does Cutler order whenever he is at Chicago Cut? Why the bone-in filet, natch.

This is not the first season Cutler has been injured for a long stretch — he broke his thumb in the second half of the 2011 season, and the team lost the next five games.

Sneed is told Cutler, who has yet to talk to the press since his injury, posed for a picture Tuesday with a fellow rehab patient, who told his nephew, Paul Zurek, about the meeting. “Jay was in good spirits. My uncle said he was a class act,” Zurek said.

Amen.

The last payout . . .

Cook County is settling its ongoing dispute with Project Shield, the county’s troubled post-9/11 security initiative that had come under scrutiny by the FBI.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle ended the troubled mobile and stationary camera program run by a private contractor shortly after she took office. The contractor was criticized for being behind schedule, over-budget and installing ineffective cameras.

◆ $$$ “The company that ran the program still wanted tens of millions of dollars,” said a top Sneed source. “But the final payment, which is expected to be approved by the Cook County Board Wednesday, is $495,000,” the source added.

The silver cup . . .

The world’s most famous punchbowl, the Stanley Cup, will be surrounded by stars Wednesday when legendary Blackhawk Denis Savard hauls the hockey chalice to the Cinespace film studio.

◆ Savard, the team’s ambassador, will be giving the stars of five shows being filmed at Cinespace, “Chicago Fire”, “Chicago PD”, “Crisis”, “Sirens” and “Mind Games” a chance to pose with the traveling cup. Sneed bets “Fire” stars Taylor Kinney, JesseSpencer and “PD” star Sophia Bush will be on hand.

◆ The Cup will then make its way to the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind.

Sneedlings . . .

Wednesday’s birthdays: Ryan Reynolds, 37; Weird Al Yankovic, 54, and Cat Deeley, 37.
