Richie’s going steady!
Begorrah! Former Mayor Rich Daley, 71, is “going steady” with Dr. Adele Joy Cobbs, 41, the lady he has been dating since last year.
◆ The heart shot: That’s what Daley told WGN radio’s Bob Sirott and Marianne Murciano Thursday during an interview on their noontime show.
“He finally spoke publicly about Dr. Adele Joy Cobbs, the youngest medical doctor at the Chicago Board of Health,” said Sirott.
“I tried to get him to confirm his dating ‘status’ and asked if he’s ‘going steady’.” (Sneed tipped they were dating on July 30.)
“After much squirming when I referred to him as a ‘man about town,’ he said, ‘Yes, we’re going steady.’”
Good job, Bob.
Getting a man to admit he’s going steady with a lovely, intelligent woman 30 years younger than him is fascinating.
By the way, he calls her “Joy”.
Hill & Bill. . .
A luvvvv note: Last Friday, former President Bill Clinton tweeted a note and a photo from London, where he and wife, Hillary, were celebrating their 38th wedding anniversary: “Beautiful morning walk in Hyde Park #London with @HillaryClinton.”
The marathon girl. . .
Sneed caught up with Tatyana McFadden, the mega marathon wheelchair racer who was once an orphan in Russia without a wheelchair for her paralyzed legs.
She learned to walk on her hands instead.
◆ Update: This time McFadden, who won the wheelchair segment of the 2013 Boston Marathon before the bombing started, is now out to break the world record for number of marathon wins in Chicago’s marathon Sunday.
◆ The kicker: McFadden, a 24-year-old senior at the University of Illinois, tells Sneed she has “been staying up way too late” studying and writing papers for midterms this week.
◆ Not to worry: “I actually went out for a 20 minute run this morning, which is like 10 miles,” she told Sneed. “Tomorrow, I’ll go out again for another 10 miles.”
The White House Gift Shop is bankrupt!
◆ Bah, humbug! The shop, run by a nonprofit group aiding Secret Service officers and their families, is broke. A bankruptcy petition was filed in June by the shop, which specialized in White House Christmas decorations and trinkets. Thought you might like to know.
Worm squirm. . .
Basketball bad boy Dennis Rodman, the new best buddy of North Korean strongboy Kim Jong-un, was at Chicago Cut Thursday promoting his new Dennis Rodman Badass Vodka.
◆ The hoop shot: The “Badass” ain’t Un’s favorite hoopster!
◆ The sling shot: In the heart-wrenching book about North Korean concentration camps, “Escape from Camp 14,” Kim Jong-un — also known as the “Supreme Leader” — was described as a student who played on his school basketball team in Switzerland. . . and spent oodles of time drawing pictures of Michael Jordan.
◆ The slap shot: Un’s dad, Kim Jong-il’s most prized possession is a Jordan-signed basketball, given to him by the then-U.S. Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright.
The shutdown song. . .
The legendary rock ‘n roll band Chicago just tweeted President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton, House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid a link to their new song, “America”.
Check out some of the lyrics:
“We the people must start right now,
Don’t expect our leaders to show us how,
They don’t have a clue what to do,
We can’t keep havin’ you make our rules,
When you treat us common folk like fools,
It’s time to stand up for our rights,
Put congress in our political sights,
Make them pass laws that help us all.”
