The cop shop . . .

Bang. Bang. Police Supt. Garry McCarthy must be bristling. A CNN national security adviser just called Chicago “the Mogadishu of the United States.”

Huma duma . . .

Sneed hears rumbles that the state of the marriage of Hillary Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin, and sexting hubby Anthony Weiner, which has been a mystery since her news conference endorsing Weiner’s Dem primary bid for New York mayor — is in shambles. Stay tuned.

Cooper dooper . . .

Hmm. Will CNN powerhouse Anderson Cooper, whose great-great-great-grandfather was the legendary mogul Cornelius Vanderbilt, lend his considerable cachet to a crusade endorsed by his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, who is fighting a proposal to build a new visitor’s center at his ancestor’s legendary Newport, R.I., estate “The Breakers,” the nation’s most visited mansion?

◆ Cooper’s eccentric mum, who is an accomplished artist in her own right, tells the press she doesn’t like the idea of “plastic shrink-wrapped sandwiches” in her great-great-grandfather’s “magical kingdom.”

There ya go.

Rahm ’em . . .

Yes. Yes. Yes. That was Mayor Rahm Emanuel walking up and down the aisles at the Wal-Mart store at 47th and Bishop streets recently asking questions about neighborhood security and listening to onlookers opine: “Mayor Daley never did this.”

Dog gone . . .

It’s not “Socks.”

◆ Former President George W. Bush recently welcomed a new pet to his home: a stray cat named “Bob,” who wandered onto the family’s ranch in Crawford, Texas. Bob now lives with the family dog, “Miss Beazley,” in Dallas.

The Hillary file . . .

Hill Swill: While the nation awaits word whether Hillary “I haven’t decided yet” Clinton is going to make another run for the presidency, she tells New York magazine that she’s now enjoying “just ordinary everyday pleasures.”

◆ Quoth the Hill: “We get to be at home together a lot more now than we used to in the last few years. We have a great time; we laugh at our dogs; we watch stupid movies; we take long walks; we go for a swim.”

Power’s court . . .

Hashtag hoopla: Pulitzer Prize-winning author Samantha Power, the rookie U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, who had been pushing President Barack Obama for a military strike against Syria, has a Twitter account that reads: “Mother, human rights defender, teacher, writer and member of the @RedSox nation.”

Foxy loxy: Power, a mother of two, once posed for Men’s Vogue mag in four-inch heels and what was described as a slinky dress.

The Douglas file . . .

In case you are wondering where Emmy Award-winner Michael Douglas’ estranged wife, Catherine Zeta Jones, who suffers from bipolar disorder, was when her hubby got his award and thanked her for her support: China.

Got a room?

Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s attempt to make Chicago a top tourist destination seems to be working.

◆ Translation: The city’s hotel occupancy stats set a new number last month: a record 86.4 percent of hotel rooms filled.

◆ The flip side: That’s a 1.6 percent increase from last year.

An Iran irony?

New Iranian President Hasan Rouhani may be on a charm offensive at the United Nations — pitching a possible accord with the West on nuclear weapons — but he skipped a U.N. luncheon because liquor was being served.

◆ Translation: Devout Muslims don’t drink alcohol.

Sneedlings . . .

Stash Bash: Sneed hears several hundred guests at a retirement luncheon for Illinois Retail Merchants Association President Dave Vite — who was once named “Illinois’ best business lobbyist” by Crain’s — applauded his 35-year tenure wearing replicas of Vite’s mustache!!!

Sports shorts: The Chicago Bulls’ Carlos Boozer spotted at Chicago Cut for lunch Monday; then Chicago Bears Lance Briggs and James Andersen hit the eatery for dinner. . . . Wednesday’s birthdays: Will Smith, 45; Catherine Zeta-Jones, 44; Michael Douglas, 69; Scottie Pippen, 48; Barbara Walters, 84, and Heather Locklear, 52.
