Sneed exclusive. . .

Return to sender?

First class male: Watch for State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Marengo) to send a letter to every college president making them wish their addresses were unknown.

◆ To wit: Franks, chairman of the State Government Administration Committee, wants to know whether their institutions are giving lavish loans to professors and administrators for expenditures like summer homes.

“This better not be happening,” said Franks, who is outraged by a recent New York Times story on lavish loans and university compensation given to star professors.

“These letters are going to the presidents of all not-for-profit colleges and universities -- and if this is happening, I want to know the terms of these loans and whether they are forgiven after a certain period of time,” he said.

◆ Backshot: One egregious example involved a mortgage loan to new U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, a former NYU executive veep, whose loan from NYU was forgiven and became an issue during his confirmation hearings.

◆ Kick shot: “These are not-for-profit institutions which are tax exempt as well as property tax exempt, and if they are acting like a for-profit organization by giving out perks to professors, that’s wrong. Especially when students are inundated with college loan debt that can’t be forgiven,” Franks said.

“Perhaps we should reconsider their status!”

◆ Buckshot: “There are parents trying to make ends meet while sending their kids off to school and they’d be shocked to find out if the tuition dollars were being used to finance the extravagant lifestyles of teachers and administrators,” Franks said.

“I’m giving them until July 31 to respond, and if not, I do have subpoena powers.”

Stay tuned.

Simon eyes. . .

Is this another indication Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan plans to run for governor?

◆ Dem femme data: Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon showed up at a Dem pre-slating meeting at the Hotel Allegro Thursday to pitch her desire to run for Madigan’s job.

A heavy load. . .

In case you were wondering about the ponderous pending immigration legislation being pitched to Congress, it’s about the size of a small dog: 1,075 pages, weighing 24 pounds.

The Beyonce beat. . .

Hmmm. Guess she’s not pregnant? The New York tabloid press claims pop star Beyonce was spotted drinking -- and was happily photographed doing it -- at a 10-year anniversary party for her husband Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club in New York.

The Rauner report. . .

Ain’t no mountain high enough? Not in Illinois there’s not -- but the mysterious mountains Sneed found in multimillionaire GOP guv candidate Bruce Rauner’s campaign video a couple weeks ago are still there!

I spy. . .

Actor Paul “Goodfellas” Sorvino dined at Rosebud Naperville Wednesday night. . .and actor John “Frasier” Mahoney was at the Marion Street Grille Wednesday night, talking about the late Father Andrew Greeley -- his parish priest at Beverly’s Christ the King.

Pippa’s prattle. . .

ZZZzzzzzzzz: Some sage advice from Kate Middleton’s party planning sister, Pippa, on attending Wimbledon, from her new column in Vanity Fair magazine:

“Leave enough time to get to the tennis! I always underestimate the time it takes to get everywhere and so feel in a rush.”

Now there’s a mind equal to 1,000 plants.

Sneedlings. . .

Yuk Central: Zanies Comedy Club in Rosemont is celebrating its one-year anniversary on July 6 with a playful roast of Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens. All proceeds from the roast will benefit the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. . . and belated congratulations to Father Pat Boyle on 50 years of ordination. . . Divorce lawyer James Feldman is giving the commencement address at a Northwestern University graduation ceremony Saturday for master’s degree students in marriage and family therapy programs, natch. . . Friday’s birthdays: Prince William , 31; Ray Davies ,69, and Juliette Lewis , 40.
