In a move to honor late Illinois State Trooper James Sauter, 28, who was killed Thursday when his emergency vehicle was struck by a truck, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart’s police officers will patrol the county expressways during his funeral, Illinois State Police Director Hiram Grau tells Sneed.
Sauter’s funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morraine Valley Church, 6300 W. 127th in Palos Heights.
Grau also plans to call a security summit to protect Illinois State Troopers from being killed during roadside emergencies — a tragedy that has claimed the lives of two troopers in the last five months.
“This has to end!” the state’s top cop tells Sneed. “If it means me assigning more men to ensure the safety of troopers dealing with roadside emergencies, then so be it.”
“Our mission now is not only to ensure the safety of state troopers manning emergency vehicles who get killed in the line of duty, but to ensure their emergency vehicles are given wide berth by passing cars and trucks,” he said. The Jackson briefs. . .
It has been rather quiet on the Jackson front since former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. pleaded guilty to stealing from his campaign funds last month.
It was thought Triple J had been ensconced at his home in Washington, D.C., with wife, former Ald. Sandi Jackson, and out of the public eye while awaiting sentencing in June.
Sneed hears Triple J and his father, affectionately known as “Reverend,” have been hanging out in a favorite Jackson bathhouse, now known as the Red Square Cafe Lounge — a renovation of the old Division Street Bathhouse at 1914 W. Division St.
“It’s a good place to relax and talk and work out the knots,” said a Sneed source, who claims the spa is known for its Russian and Turkish scrubs and massages. It’s no secret Triple J has been in a knotty situation with the feds for years.
“Both of the Jacksons, father and son, were here today [Friday],” said the source. “It’s a good place to hang out — and it’s the second time they’ve visited recently. They were getting massages — at least Rev. Jackson did — and enjoying the cafe.”
The old version of this bathhouse was a favorite hangout of Jackson Sr. — it was there he would met Rev. James Meeks or hang out with LL Cool J.
It’s no surprise the Jacksons chose the fog of a good steamroom to talk over a future predestined by the feds.
Why not. Suds, blather & borscht . . . a great menu for remediation.

Touchy. Touchy. Touchy.
Sneed’s item last week about New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s copycat visit to a prison during Easter Week a la the new pope — and the suggestion the headline-grabbing Big Apple cardinal travels with a PR fleet — got a thwacking from Dolan’s PR guru, Joseph Zwilling, director of communications for the Archdiocese of New York.
Quoth Zwilling: “Mr. Sneed:
“You might be interested to know that Cardinal Dolan (like Cardinal George) regularly visits prisoners. He does so each year, at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter time. His visit this past Wednesday had been scheduled months in advance; I believe many bishops do the same in other parts of the country.
“To suggest that Cardinal Dolan visited a prison on Wednesday as a publicity move to capitalize on Pope Francis’ visiting a prison in Rome is not accurate.
“And, while I can certainly stand to lose some weight, I would be hesitant to call myself a ‘fleet of PR people.”
Sneed’s return memo to Mr. Zwilling:
Check your facts. I am a Ms. Not a mister.

Down dog: Sneed has learned Lady Gaga, who recently underwent hip surgery, is backing up the line at Bikram Yoga at 1 E. Erie St. Her security staff is causing a patron backup during her private sessions. Gaga, whose beau is in town filming “Chicago Fire,” was seen going in and out of the studio in a wheelchair twice last week.
