The Jonylah funeral . . .

Hmmm . . .

. . . In case you didn’t notice, the funeral of 6-month-old Jonylah Watkins, who was killed by a bullet meant for her father while sitting in his lap in a minivan last week — was celebrity-shy.

◆ Backshot: When Hadiya Pendleton, 15, was mistakenly killed by a street gang’s bullet in January, her funeral was attended by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Gov. Pat Quinn, first lady Michelle Obama, Police Supt. Garry McCarthy, the Rev. Michael Pfleger — and the Rev. Jesse Jackson was somewhere in the mix.

So what was different this time?

◆ Let’s just say Emanuel — who left Monday on a family skiing vacation typically scheduled at this time of year — and others are heartbroken about Jonylah, but they’re waiting to find out the real reason why a gun aimed through a right-rear car window wounded her father, a street gang member with a lengthy arrest sheet, and ricocheted through the body of this precious baby.

This story is as awful as it gets: The bullet that killed Jonylah wound up enmeshed in her diaper.

Stay tuned.

Chips ahoy!

Ka-ching? Sneed hears rumbles that the portent for the legislative approval of a Chicago casino is looking brighter!

Bench press . . .

Yipes! Who’s been passing out Kickapoo Joy Juice at the federal building?

◆ Translation: The Love Boat has docked at the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals! Sneed is told a gaggle of older (and ostensibly wiser) judges who have hit the mid-60 to 80-plus-year benchmarks are getting hitched.

◆ Legal briefs: Not only did Judge William “Bill” Bauer, a widower who experienced a lengthy, blissful marriage, initiate the marital mania by tying the knot again —but his sidekick and Sneed pal, Judge Ilana Rovner, widow of renowned Dr. Richard Rovner, also recently wed.

◆ Cupid’s bow: And now comes word that Chief Judge Frank Easterbrook, 64, who appeared to be a confirmed bachelor, got hit by Cupid’s arrow and is getting married soon!

Pass the Kickapoo — and blessings to you all!

Frock shock . . .

The Di file: The latest sale of fancy frocks from Princess Diana’s wardrobe was a dud. It seems the collection of 10 dresses sold for about $1.1 million, significantly lower than expected. But the biggest frock shock was the sale of the gown Diana wore to the White House when she danced with actor John “Saturday Night Fever” Travolta.

It was purchased for about $360,000 dollars (below the $450,000 expected) by a Brit as a surprise to cheer up his wife.

The papal file . . .

Random notes and observations from Dia Weil, Sneed correspondent at the Vatican attending the inaugural mass for Pope Francis.

◆ Beautiful blue sky. A sea of people in St. Peter’s Square standing silently in the sun. Priests sweeping the altar. Gold altarpiece glinting in the sun.

◆ Young priests and older nuns praying while waiting for the mass; friars in simple dress kneeling in front of the papal throne; helicopters overhead.

◆ A moving and beautiful Mass full of the pope’s words of kindness and service.

◆ Communion distributed to everyone in the crowd.

◆ The pope walking over to thank all the ushers and nuns who helped during the mass.

◆ The pope being driven around the square without the bulletproof glass and stopping to kiss a disabled man cradled in his friend’s arms.

I spy . . .

◆ Actor Chris “Thor” Hemsworth, brother of Liam — who was/is engaged to pop star Miley Cyrus — stopping by Gibsons on Monday night to dine with producer and director Michael “Public Enemies” Mann. (A cyber thriller may be in the works?) Word is women in the restaurant couldn’t take their eyes off Chris — but Hemsworth is very happily married.

◆ Begorrah! The Daley clan, including Rich, Bill, Mike, John and new Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Patrick Thompson, showing up for their annual St. Pat’s celebration with a crowd of 500 at Chicago Cut Steakhouse last weekend.

Sneedlings . . .

Condolences to the family of Dr. Samuel Huffman, who died over the weekend. . . . Wednesday’s birthdays: Spike Lee, 56; Holly Hunter, 55, and Carl Reiner, 91.
