The Blago beat ...

Is the Blagojevich family planning a move to Colorado if the U.S. Bureau of Prisons gives the green light to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s request to serve his 14-year prison sentence there?

“Why not?” speculated a source close to the Blago case.

“Rod adores his daughters, it would get his wife, Patti, and the family out of town ... and a new beginning. Traveling to Colorado to see Rod for the next dozen or so years would be a killer for them.”

◆ Fact: There have been no bites on the sale of the Blagojevich family Ravenswood Manor home.

◆ Fact: Robert Blagojevich, Blago’s brother, was in town recently — but an attempt to visit his brother “didn’t materialize,” said a source. “Rob calls Rod ... and every once in a while a call gets returned. He is giving his brother space. Rod knows Rob is there for him if he needs him.”

The Blago beat II ...

Smack ’em: Robert Blagojevich was in town to address a law school class at DePaul University two weeks ago and “was extremely bitter about the prosecution, the U.S. Attorney’s office and U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald,” said DePaul Law professor Len Cavise. “He was very animated about it.”

◆ Parting shot: Cavise also described Robert as “funny ... talking about his ‘indictment diet’ — how he lost 10 ponds in the first week after he was indicted.”

◆ End shot: “A lot of the students who were asking questions seemed to think he really got screwed,” Cavise added.

Ring. Ring.

Yes ... that was Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan personally fielding phone calls Friday from troubled homeowners dialing the “Homeowner Help Line” at (866) 544-7151.

◆ Translation: Sneed is told one caller, who wanted to know if she qualified for a portion of $25 billion in federal reimbursement funds ponied up by big banks, dispatched Lisa a note after getting the runaround from her bank: “Just spoke to Lisa. (Don’t know if it was Lisa Madigan.) But I love her.”

The security file ...

Floating anarchists?

Sneed hears the U.S. Coast Guard is bracing bigtime for the upcoming G-8 and NATO summits here in May.

◆ Translation: It’s going to look like the D-Day invasion with boats patrolling the shores of Lake Michigan in case protestors take to the lake.

$$$$$ …

Is it true Madonna’s halftime Super Bowl show cost nearly $15 million to produce? That’s the pigskin tittle-tattle.

$$$$$ …

Former U.S. Sen. John Edwards, the disgraced former Dem presidential hopeful, still owes political strategist David Axelrod’s firm about $65,000 for Axelrod’s work on Edwards’ 2004 senatorial campaign.

Hit ’em ...

Sneed bets Bear linebacker Brian Urlacher would agree with a new Forbes poll ranking Detroit Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh fourth on a list of most-disliked athletes.

◆ To wit: If Urlacher could pick one player to lay out in the NFL, he’d choose Suh.

◆ Background: The revelation came during a Q and A that followed a pep talk Urlacher gave to the Loyola Academy football team as they prepared for the state finals back in November.

◆ Suh gained infamy after stomping on an opponent on the field last season.

Good grief!

Author Anne Sebba’s upcoming book, That Woman: The Life of Wallis Simpson Duchess of Windsor, reportedly attempts to throw a new light on the plight of the American divorcee who bagged the King of England and married him after he abdicated the throne “for the woman I love.”

◆ Yipes! The author apparently suggests Simpson, the very thin, elegant, glamorous, not very good looking mistress and future wife of the weak Duke of Windsor — may have been born with “ambiguous genitals.”

And how was your day?

Sneedlings ...

St. Pat’s chat: Blimey! Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Enda Kenny will march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade next month, which finally falls on the actual St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th ...
