This is a lean and mean variation on a familiar theme, tense throughout, with some terrific performances A-

Star Trek Into Darkness (PG-13)

A solid but unspectacular effort that sets the stage for the next chapters B

The Great Gatsby (PG-13)

The best attempt yet to capture the essence of the novel A-

At Any Price (R)

Itâs one of the weirdest movies Iâve ever seen, and not in a particularly good way. C

The Reluctant Fundamentalist (R)

Deliberately ambiguous, âThe Reluctant Fundamentalistâ provides just enough answers while leaving us with more than enough questions. A-

Iron Man 3 (PG-13)

âIron Man 3â is one of the best entries in this modern golden age of superhero movies. A

Arthur Newman ()

An offbeat, sometimes self-congratulatory road movie romance. C+

Pain and Gain ()

Kudos to Bay and his screenwriters for making sure weâre laughing at them, not with them. B

The Big Wedding (R)

Looks great, some terrific ingredients, but when you slice it up, what a disappointment. C

To the Wonder (R)

We should not be exiting a Terrence Malick movie with a shrug, but there it is. C

Oblivion (PG-13)

This is the sci-fi movie equivalent of a pretty damn good cover band. B

The Company You Keep (R)

It winds up being less than the sum of its parts C+

42 (PG-13)

This is a competent but mostly unexceptional film about a most extraordinary man B

Disconnect (R)

There wasnât a moment during this movie when I was thinking about anything other than this movie A+

The Place Beyond the Pines (R)

An ambitious trilogy, with each chapter taking surprising, sometimes shocking turns. A

It's an irredeemable, sadistic gore-fest celebrating the shockingly bloody deaths of some of the stupidest people... D-

G.I. Joe: Retaliation (PG-13)

Weâre so obviously looking at CGI trickery and stunt-work we just donât care. D-

Seems more suited to a drama than a comedy. C-

Olympus Has Fallen (R)

âOlympus Has Fallenâ is just too much of a pale âDie Hardâ ripoff. C

Spring Breakers (R)

âSpring Breakersâ is a candy-colored fever dream that is the most unforgettable movie of the year so far. A-

Emperor (PG-13)

Overall, this is an important and also entertaining history lesson. B

Oz the Great and Powerful (PG-13)

Too many of the performances just donât pop. C+
