Did Wright hurt him? Poll says no

March 27, 2008

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright furor hasn't significantly changed Barack Obama's race with Hillary Clinton, a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll suggests.

The new poll is a "myth-buster," said Democratic pollster Peter Hart, who helped conduct the survey.

The Wright controversy is "not the beginning of the end for the Obama campaign," Hart said.

Obama is running even with Clinton -- 45 percent to 45 percent -- among registered Democrats in the poll.

Two weeks ago, the same poll had Clinton ahead of Obama 47 percent to 43 percent. The change is considered statistically insignificant.

The Wright affair prompted some to question whether Obama would lose white support. But the poll showed Obama actually gaining slightly among whites.
