Obama chokes up as he says goodbye to Chicago
President-elect Barack Obama had a tough, lonely last night in his Chicago home, he admitted Sunday.
As he boarded a plane at Midway Airport to join his wife and daughters, who flew to Washington, D.C., on Saturday, Obama talked about his daughter's friend coming to the door after they had left.
"Malia's friend had dropped off an album of the two of them together," Obama said Sunday. "They had been friends since pre-school, and I just looked through the pages, and the house was empty, and it was a little tough -- it got me."
The Obamas' home for the next 10 days will be the Hay-Adams Hotel in Washington. Daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, start school in D.C. today.
Obama says he plans to come back and visit Chicago often, though he admitted, "I gotta say I choked up a little bit leaving my house today."
