2 CCH judges dismissed

Two Country Club Hills election judges were dismissed Monday after officials learned they had attempted to set up voting equipment days before they were scheduled to do so.
“We had gotten calls from voters that these judges were in the voting supply carriers on Friday,” said Courtney Greve, spokesperson for Cook County Clerk David Orr.
The judges, a mother and son, were supposed to go into the polling area with the other judges on Monday.
“No one should have been in there Friday,” Greve said.
Country Club Hills residents are voting today on a hotly contested referendum to reduce the number of aldermen from two per ward to one per ward in the village. Greve said there was no way to know the dismissed judges’ intentions.
Greve said investigators were sent in to make sure all the equipment was secure, even though it is virtually impossible to get away with stuffing the ballot box because a zero tape is run when the poll opens on election day, ensuring that there are no existing votes.
“We know they weren’t able to impact the vote in any way,” Greve said. “But what they did was inappropriate.”
