Raghuveer Nayak has poured money into the campaigns of political candidates on both sides of the aisle — from Barack Obama to U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez to the McCain-Palin presidential ticket to U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.
According to the Better Government Association, Nayak and the 10 companies named in a federal indictment gave nearly $500,000 to candidates between 2000 and 2008. However, the numbers don’t show that Nayak has helped raise even more money from others — including for Jesse Jackson Jr.
Top recipients of Nayak’s largesse include:
(1) Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich: $198,000
(2) Former state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias: $23,000
(3) Former state Rep. Jay Hoffman: $20,000
(4) Attorney General Lisa Madigan: $19,000
(5) Gov. Pat Quinn: $18,000
