The Illinois House approved a measure Tuesday that would allow people to make audio recordings of police officers after a weekend of NATO Summit protests in Chicago that brought the issue into focus. The bill was passed 71-45. A previous attempt to decriminalize audio recordings of police failed in March. The measure heads back to the Senate, where it needs 30 votes to pass. Rep. Dena Carli (D-Chicago), a former police sergeant, opposed the bill because of the risks involved in getting close enough to record on-duty police officers.
