Hugh Hill, the face of politics on WLS-Channel 7 for more than three decades, died Friday. He was 89.

Mr. Hill, who previously worked for WBBM-Channel 2, retired in 1996.

A native of downstate Gillespie, Mr. Hill served in the military during World War II and went on to earn a degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.

He began his news career in Chicago in 1953 and was one of the city’s first TV news reporters.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jackie Williams, five children and 13 grandchildren.
